The Universal Postal Union was founded on October 9, 1874 in Bern, and the Principality of Serbia was among the 22 founding states.
The decision to celebrate that day as a holiday of the global postal community, which today brings together 192 countries, was made at the Universal Postal Union Congress in Tokyo in 1969. World Post Day is celebrated with the aim of promoting the post as an institution, its impact on the daily lives of people around the world, as well as raising awareness of its contribution to the overall socio-economic development of humanity.
At the PTT Museum, the Post of Serbia marked World Post Day with a thematic exhibition “Universal Postal Union – 150 years since its founding” by the author Alma Koman, which can be visited until November 30, 2024.
